Ingrown Hair
Ingrown hair, we all get them from time to time, but why? Basically an ingrown hair is defined as a condition where the hair curls back or grows unevenly into the skin. Ingrown hairs can appear anywhere on your body, however the most common areas are where you shave your hair, which is most likely the legs, beard and private areas.
Causes of Ingrown Hair
The causes of ingrown hair are simple and can probably be avoided as long as you handled proper shaving with care. The most common cause of ingrown hair is improper hair removal, such as shaving, waxing and tweezing. Wearing tight clothes and not allowing the skin to breathe and absorb moisture can also be another cause of that little ingrown hair. The build up of dead skin cells is also another cause of an ingrown hair.
Ingrown Hairs Symptoms
Ingrown hairs can be harmless, but quite irritating if it takes a little longer time to get rid of it or it is just plain stubborn. However there are some symptoms to tell if that stubborn hair is an ingrown or not. Some symptoms can include itchy skin, rash, infection or pus or bumps under the skin where the ingrown hair is present.
Ingrown Hair Removal & Treatment
The treatment in caring for an ingrown hair is simple and easy and it can be done at home with no medical attention. There are a variety of different ways to treat an ingrown hair or to prevent an ingrown hair from growing in.
Shave hair in a different direction to avoid the ingrown hair from forming.
Wear loose fitting clothes so you can allow room for your skin to breathe and obtain the proper moisture that is needed.
You can take a pair of tweezers and gently lift the ingrown hair straight from the follicle, however be careful not to overdo tweezing, since improper hair removal techniques can also cause the ingrown hair to become present.
Hold a hot or warm towel against the affected are for about 20 minutes to help soften the skin. It is best to do this routine at least 2 or 3 times a week for best results.
However in a more serious case where there is an individual that suffers from chronic ingrown hair problems they can be prescribed an antiseptic by their dermatologist or use a depilatory cream that is used to treat ingrown hairs for a temporary resolution. For a more permanent result one can under go electrolysis to zap the hair follicles and prevent the hair from growing back.
The best way to take care of an ingrown hair is not to have ingrown hairs at all, in some cases that is not possible due to the wonderful world of genetics. However you can take all of the possible steps listed above to prevent an ingrown hair from forming. But if it does know you know what to do to get rid of it, or not have an ingrown hair at all, so you can go on with your life and not worry about a little bitty hair.
