Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal has come as a boon to those who have unsightly hair. In fact having unwanted hair can be an embarrassing problem for not only women but also for men. You should also remember this is the age when people are increasingly conscious about their looks. Thankfully science and technology has come up with a solution to unwanted hair in the form of laser hair removal method. No more shaving and waxing now. Millions of women around the world have sought laser assisted method from the time the method came and the numbers are increasing by the day.

How does laser hair removal work?

The working mechanism of laser hair removal is quite simple in theory. Light penetrates deep into the skin. While doing so it converts into heat which in turn causes a kind of thermal injury to what is known as the hair follicle. The heat disables the hair follicle. Hair re-growth is effectively inhibited this way. The process of laser hair removal is best done during what is known as the growth stage of the hair. This is so because hair is known to grow in cycles and not all the hair follicles are at the same stage of growth. This is the reason why laser hair removal is done over several sessions. Best results can be achieved if it is done in this systematic session-wise manner.

Laser Hair Removal Surgery and Treatments

The entire surgery could be over in as short a time as ten minutes. The pain is very minimal. There are very rare occasions though when a numbing cream or a topical anesthesia is used. Rapidly advancing technology has played a big part in the increasing popularity of laser hair removal method. The modern devices that are used in laser therapy make the entire process gentle when compared to other crude methods such as plucking of hair. Moreover laser hair removal offers a permanent solution when compared to the other methods.

Precautions For Laser Hair Removal Treatment

Before taking hair removal treatment though, you will need to take certain precautions.

  • It is usually advisable to avoid excessive sun exposure a week before the session.
  • A patch test on a small area of the skin is also performed since the laser device needs to be adjusted to the person's skin color, before the session.
  • Once the procedure is over the treated area may sometimes appear slightly swollen or reddish. This problem can be easily overcome with the help of certain ointment or creams. You can return to all normal activities almost immediately.
  • You should take care though to avoid exposure to sun.

Laser hair removal is considered one of the safest and most effective methods of hair removal. In certain very rare cases some complications such as scaring, blistering, burning or changes in pigmentation may occur. Almost all these side-effects are temporary and can be treated very easily. While almost any person can undergo laser hair removal therapy, it is known to give better results in people whose hair is darker than their skin. It is no wonder than that with all these advantages this non-invasive and simple method of hair removal is finding an increasing number of takers these days.
