Is Your Cat Losing Hair?
Pet owners often notice that their cats are losing hair. Feline hair loss is a common problem that has to be dealt with. Just because this is a common problem with cats, feline hair loss should not be ignored. There are various reasons that cats lose their hair. It will often take the assistance of your veterinarian, to help figure out what your cat’s hair loss is due to. Each case is individual, and could be related to different causes. Some of the causes for feline hair loss are serious, and your cat’s condition needs to be monitored.
Cats have allergies too.
People, who are allergic to cats are generally allergic to the dander shed by the cat. Millions of people suffer from this specific allergy. It is not well known that cats, too, can be allergic to certain things. Those allergies are some of the culprits responsible for feline hair loss. These allergies can be related to the environment.
Something specific in your cat’s environment, either inside or outside, can cause it to lose hair. In other cases, cats are allergic to their food. There can be an ingredient in the food that does not agree with your cat. This is a case by case scenario, since other cats may not be bothered by the same food, at all.
A lack in certain supplements can cause your cat’s hair to shed.
Poor diet is one of the major causes of hair loss in cats. This can be based on the food they eat, or some sort of dietary lack in their food. In other words, the food you buy for your cat, may not include everything it needs to remain healthy. A result of this is hair loss.
One thing to make sure of when purchasing cat food, make sure that it is high in protein. Proteins, such as, salmon and turkey are especially good for your cat’s coat. This type of dietary change, could possibly cure the hair shedding problem.
Is your cat up to date on its vaccinations?
Believe it or not, lack of proper vaccinations can cause your cat to lose hair. You need to check with your vet to make sure of the status of your pet. If it is not up to date on shots, make sure to schedule an appointment to do so. This will be a small price to pay for the health of your little one.
Serious illnesses can be the cause of feline hair loss.
This is one of the options no pet owner wants to hear. But in reality, a serious illness could be the reason why your cat is continuing to shed. Some of these diseases contracted by cats can be treated by your vet, quite easily. There are those diseases, however, that are more serious. Examples of these illnesses, are Cushing’s disease, and Addison’s disease. A proper diagnosis is the only way to know if your cat has an illness. Regular checkups are encouraged, in order to maintain your pet’s health.
