Grapefruit Diet

The Grapefruit Diet, also known as the Hollywood Diet, is one of the most popular diets today. This short term diet, first came on the scene in the 1930's. It didn't gain major popularity until the 1970's, though. With the Grapefruit Diet, participants are instructed to eat one half of a grapefruit, or grapefruit juice, along with every meal.

The Grapefruit Diet is based upon the belief that consuming grapefruits, in some form will cause weight loss. This fruit is said to reduce the caloric intake, of those who eat it. It is documented that in some cases, calories have decreased by as much as, 800 per day. Why does this happen? Many researchers believe that grapefruits have a powerful enzyme in them. This enzyme is believed to burn fat quickly.

To many, it is thought, the Grapefruit Diet will always be just another fad diet. As is the case with any diet, this one should only be considered a short term way of losing weight. The healthiest long term strategy for weight loss, or maintaining weight is regular exercise. Dietary control plays a big part in the long term strategy as well.

Researchers have looked at the Grapefruit Diet, and the many other variations of this diet. They wanted to see what credibility the diet had. Specifically, the Florida Citrus Department studied the benefits of consuming grapefruit. This was particularly focused on the positive health attributes of grapefruit.

Their results only seemed to confirm what is popularly known already about this diet. The study found that dieters loss weight by participating in diets like, the Grapefruit Diet. On average, dieters loss 3 - 4 pounds over the span of twelve weeks of dieting. Their findings are based upon some specific things grapefruit do in the body.

Grapefruit are thought to reduce natural insulin levels in the body. This reduction goes on to cause dieters to lose fat. So, the results, of the study done by the Florida Citrus Department shows that there are benefits to the Grapefruit Diet. This is something many dieters know already, from personal experience.

It is always important for those considering a diet, to consult their personal physician. Depending on your own physical condition, it may be wise to talk to your doctor, before beginning any diet program. Many diets, like the Grapefruit Diet, have been helpful to people wanting to lose weight. All diets should be considered carefully, and done only for a short period of time.
