1920s Fashion Trends
The roaring '20s was a time when women wanted to express their individuality. Because of this reason, it is not surprising that the fashion styles that were worn by flappers during the 1920s have remained symbolic of the decade. Whether you are going to be attending a 1920s themed party or you simply want to learn more about 1920s fashion, you have come to the right place. Here are some of the most notable 1920s fashion styles.
1920s Fashion Styles - Color of Stockings
One change that took place during the 1920's was the color of stockings. Up until this point, women only wore very dark colored stockings, such as black or navy blue. During the 1920s, women began to wear nude and white colored stockings. Stockings became made of lighter materials, instead of the heavy materials that were previously used.
1920s Fashion Styles - The Nude Appearance
A main goal of flappers was to show off their bodies. Up until this point, it was pretty important for women to wear clothing that covered their legs, necks and arms. With the roaring 20s came a roar of the nude appearance. Skirts that were cut above or just below the knees, which were not worn before, became the popular length. Shirts became much lower cut and sleeveless, showing off the neck and arms. The most common color that was worn during the 20s was nude, which added to the overall nude appearance.
1920s Fashion Styles - Different Fabrics
Along with the nude appearance came different types of fabrics, including many that are still used in clothing styles today. Chiffon, silk and satin are the most popular fabrics that were worn during the 1920s. Up until this point, it was much more common for women to wear clothing that was made of cotton and wool. The new materials offered so much appeal because they were not only much more attractive, but they were also lighter and cooler to wear.
1920s Fashion Styles - The Bob Hairstyle
One of the most common 1920's fashion styles was the bob hairstyle. The reason that this hairstyle offered so much appeal was because large numbers of women were entering the work force, particularly at factories. Due to time constraints and problems that could occur in factories, the bob was a more suited hairstyle for women during this time. It was also very common for women to wear small hats in the 1920s.
1920s Fashion Styles - Makeup
During the 20s, women began to wear makeup. The main emphasis was the lips. Women wore bold and deep shades of lipstick. Some of the popular shades included red and bright pink. They also wore other types of makeup, but the rest of the face was kept very natural-looking for the most part.
The 1920s fashion that was sported by flappers was looked at by the conservatives as what had gone wrong in the world. Interestingly enough, the styles that were worn during this time period are very similar to the ones that are popular today. The bob hairstyle and nude appearance both are quite popular styles in fashion today. If you already dress this way, then it is safe to say that you may not need to add much to your regular wardrobe to attend a 20s themed party!
