Athlete's foot is medically known as Tines Pedis. It is an infection cause by the pathogenic fungus called dermatophytes. These fungus lives in moist environment, once your feet is infected these fungus will feed on your feet's dead skin.

Although Athlete's foot seems to be not a very serious problem, you must take effort to treat it immediately. Although very rare, athlete's foot can spread in other areas of the body such as groin and limbs. So to prevent further infection and humiliation, follow these simple steps:
Bathroom Hygiene - since fungus leaves in moist environment make sure that your bathroom is always clean. Use disinfectant as much as possible.
Wash clothes frequently - Don't stock dirty and unwashed clothes. Change your linens frequently.
Don't Share Personal Belongings - Use your own towels, socks, shoes and slipper. Never share with other people.
Be cautious - When you are using public toilets or and public shower make sure that you don't walk barefoot. Wash your feet and hands often.
Observe Personal hygiene - Make sure that you take care of yourself and your body. Observe proper personal hygiene. Dry your feet before wearing your socks and shoes.

Tea tree oil - It has antifungal properties that can help in treating athlete's foot. You can apply it directly to affected areas.
Baking Soda and Cornstarch - Apply directly to the infected feet. Make sure that you sprinkle in between your toes. It helps in absorbing moisture.
White vinegar - Use it as foot soak; simply mix with 1 part white vinegar and 4 parts warm water and soak your feet for 20-30 minutes.
Aloe Vera - It can soothe your itching and burning feet. It also has antiseptic properties that can help in treating your athlete's foot.
Grapefruit Seed Extract - You can apply it directly to your feet. You can also put few drops of this when you are washing your socks.
Garlic extract - Garlic is known to have antifungal properties. Apply it directly to your feet and toes.
Onion Extract - The aqueous onion extract is medically proven to kill fungus.
