Bedwetting, Causes, Bed wetting Treatment Remedies at Home

Brief Introduction

When you involuntarily urinate while you are sleeping after the age where we normally anticipated the bladder control ; you are bedwetting. Most girls develop their ability in staying dry at the age of six and boy s at the age of seven.

Medical Types of Bedwetting

Primary Nocturnal Enuresis (PNE ) - when a child continues to bed wet for at least two nights a week or cannot sleep without another person accompanying him.

Secondary Nocturnal Enuresis (SNE ) - when you get dried through a period of night, basically six or more months, and then bed wet again. It is caused by bladder infection and emotional stress.

Causes of Bedwetting

  • There are different causes of bedwetting, such as:
  • diseases o r infections such as UTI or urinary tract infection
  • ADH or insufficient anti-diuretic hormone production
  • ADHD or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder
  • physical abnormalities
  • psychological issues like sexual abuse
  • constipation

Caffeine and alcohol can also cause bedwetting because it increases the production of urine. There are also mixed, controversial and unconfirmed causes of bedwetting like heavy sleeping, stress, food allergies and improper toilet training.

Symptoms of Bedwetting

If you are suspecting that your child or someone you know is suffering from bedwetting, you may watch for these symptoms:

when a child at the age of six or seven still urinates in bed during the nights

daytime wetting

soiling due to uncontrolled movements of vowel

urine that is pinkish and cloudy

they feel burning pain while urinating.

Impact of Bedwetting to a Child

Bedwetting causes a big impact on child's self-esteem; whether it causes a low self-esteem is a matter of debate. It also lessens the social activity of a child like camp outs and sleep - overs. Bedwetting child worries about these problems ; being punished by caregivers or parents, being rejected and teased by a friends who knows , and is afraid that others may find out. Bedwetting children are withdrawn and hampered in terms of social growth.

Bedwetting Treatment Remedies at Home

There are two normal processes in preventing bedwetting; first is the hormone cycle . I t reduces the production of urine at sunset. It is the ability to release a hormone burst so that it doesn't get full till morning. The second ability is to be able to wake up when you have a full bladder.

There are also natural remedies you can try at home

  1. Cranberry juice - It is advisable to take 6 up to 8 oz. of cranberry before bed time.
  2. You can use these herbs to treat bedwetting ; lycopodium, causticum, ursi, pulsatilla, and corn silk.
  3. Eat walnut or raisins before sleeping .
  4. M assage the inner part of the thigh with oil of St John's wort
  5. Av oid drinking liquids before bedtime.

Bedwetting Diets

Eating healthy and natural foods, like vegetables and fruits are highly recommended. It is rich in fiber thus it can help in preventing bedwetting due to constipation. Foods rich in calcium, silica and magnesium like banana, almonds, milk and sesame are good for the body and can help in increasing gall bladder control.
