Bruises, Symptoms & Home Remedies for Bruises Treatment

When there is a direct impact of a blunt object in the body's surface, capillaries are damaged and blood seeps into the surrounding tissues, producing a bluish black discoloration referred to as bruises. A bruise may be painful but normally not dangerous. But sometimes bruising can be an indication of a more serious disease.

Bruises Causes:

A blunt impact on the skin's surface; may be secondary to: falls, vehicular accidents, sports injuries, or a result of blows or assault from other people.

Aspirin or warfarin are blood thinners, if you are taking these medications for some diseases, you are likely to bruise more easily.

Unexplained bruising that occurs easily with no distinct reason may be an indication of a bleeding disorder, especially when it is accompanied by frequent epistaxis or nose bleeding and bleeding of gums.

For older people, bruising comes more easily, because their skin integrity decreases, their skin becomes more fragile with age.

Signs and symptoms of Bruises

A fresh bruise actually appears reddish, within a few hours it will turn blue or dark purple, and as it heals it will change its color to yellow or green.

It is best to apply treatment right after the injury, while the bruise is still reddish.

Apply cold compress such as an ice pack on the affected area, this facilitates faster healing and impedes swelling.

If the bruise takes up a large area in the lower extremities like in the leg or foot, the leg should be kept elevated during the first 24 hours of injury.

Take acetaminophen or ibuprofen for pain as instructed on the medicine bottle. Do not take aspirin because it slows down blood clotting and it will delay healing and prolong internal bleeding.

Apply a warm wash cloth on the affected area for 10 minutes, 2 to 3 times a day after 48 hours of injury. This will help blood circulation on the damage area and will help the skin to reabsorb blood promoting faster healing.

Take vitamin K or alfalfa tablets. This helps in regulating blood clotting. This is one of the best home remedies for bruises.

Chinese home remedy for bruises: mix one part of cayenne pepper to five parts melted Vaseline, mix and let it cool down and apply to affected area once a day.

Tale a regular dose of vitamin C, it helps in tissue healing and internal hemorrhage.

Another home remedy for bruises is a mixture of hot tea with confrey root or buchu. Apply the mixture to the affected area by using a small piece of cloth. This will help in reducing pain and improve the discoloration of the skin.

Arnica is one of the proven home remedies for bruises; it can minimize inflammation and facilitates fast healing.

Mixture of arnica, yarrow, and chamomile which contains small proportion of antiseptic, analgesic, and anti-inflammatory properties.

One easy home remedy for bruises is to make a plaster out of fresh comfrey leaves and patch it to the affected area.

Take cabbage for attenuated form of bruising, it has anti-inflammatory properties that can minimize the swelling.

Grounded parsley is another home remedy for bruises; it is therapeutic for wound healing. Apply on the affected area until the discoloration marks go off.

Have a calming bath with witch hazel; it facilitates good blood circulation thus making the bruise heal faster.
