High Blood Pressure, Symptoms & Home Remedies for High Blood Pressure Treatment

Hypertension or more commonly known as high blood pressure is described as a serious medical condition wherein blood pressure is very high and it creates tension to the arteries. Blood pressure is in its normal stage when the reading is below 120/80; if the reading is between 120/80 and 139/89 it is called pre-hypertension; but if the reading is at 140/90 and above it is considered hypertension.

There are millions of people around the world who are affected by high blood pressure. It is considered one of the major public health problems. This may lead to other serious conditions like heart attack, stroke, arterial aneurism and heart failure.

Causes of High Blood Pressure

There are different factors that can cause high blood pressure; depending on what type of hypertension. There are two type of hypertension; essential and secondary.

Essential or primary hypertension is the most common type. Its has no identified direct causes but can be triggered by couch-potato lifestyle, obesity, alcohol abuse, sensitivity to salt, vitamin D deficiency and aging.

Secondary hypertension - just like the primary type it has no identified direct cause but can be triggered by other serious medical conditions like overproduction of cortisol or "Cushing Syndrome" and the congenital abnormality in the aorta. Other causes of secondary hypertension are abnormalities in the adrenal glands, kidney diseases like polycystic kidney disease and neuroendocrine tumor. It is very important to know the difference between the two types of hypertension for it is treated with different medications. Other causes of hypertension are as follows:

Pregnancy - Due to weight gain and water retention pregnant women developed "hypertension of pregnancy". Although it is a benign condition it may lead to pre-eclampsia , eclampsia and HELLP syndrome.

Medication - taking NSAIDs can also cause hypertension.

Sleep disorder - it is one of hypertension causes that is associated with neurological syndromes.

Unhealthy eating habits - too much of everything like eating too much oils and salts and drinking too much coffee and tea can lead to hypertension and other diseases.

Over stress and fatigue

Alcohol abuse and cigarette smoking

Diabetes

Home Remedies for High Blood Pressure

Being one of the major health problems today, there are lots of available medications for hypertension. There are chemical base, over the counter medications available in the market and there are also natural home remedies readily available in your home and gardens.

Natural home remedies for high blood pressure are safer, cheaper and doesn't have any long term or short term side effects. You can use the following natural remedies:

Garlic - this is one of the most commonly use home remedies for high blood pressure. You can take two raw garlic cloves to help lower down your blood pressure, reduce arteries' spasm, slows down pulse rate and reduce dizziness and numbness.

Indian Gooseberry - is another effective natural remedy for hypertension. One tablespoon of fresh Indian gooseberry juice mixed with honey can be taken every morning.

Citrus fruits like lemon and grapefruit - these fruits rare rich in vitamin C and P that helps tone down arteries and strengthen capillaries.

Watermelon seeds - Dried and roasted seeds contain an essential substance that helps in blood vessel dilation.

Parsley - is another natural herb that can be use as remedy for high blood pressure. Simply chew few leaves or you can mix 20grm of parsley with 250ml water and bring to a boil and drink this several times everyday. It can help in capillaries and blood vessel maintenance and keeps the arterial system healthy.
