Indigestion, Symptoms & Home Remedies for Indigestion Treatment

Indigestion is a state wherein the digestive system doesn't function appropriately; it cannot convert and digest food properly thus it can lead to different symptoms like bloating, nausea, heartburn and gassy discomfort in the stomach or chest. It is also known as dyspepsia.

Everybody can acquire dyspepsia or indigestion, it is one of the most widespread conditions all over the world; almost ¼ of the world's population has experience indigestion once in their lives. Although it is not a serious medical condition itself; indigestion may be a sign and symptom of other major illnesses and diseases.

Causes of Indigestion Problem

There are different factors that may cause indigestion; other possible causes are physical activities, other are systematic disorder and some are unidentifiable. Here are some reasons why a person is experiencing indigestion:

Stress - worrying to much can trigger indigestion.

Improper eating habits - eating too fast and too many foods at the same time can cause indigestion. Irregular eating hours and skipping meals may also lead to this condition.

Food - although food is one of basic human necessities it can also be the cause of some illness. For example milk and other milk products can cause indigestion to other people because it stimulates acid production in the stomach. Different people have different reactions to different foods.

Medication - certain drugs can cause indigestion for it can irritate the lining of the stomach. Medications like aspirin, NSAIDs, contraceptives, antibiotics and others can be the culprit of indigestion.

Other medical conditions - disorder in the gallbladder and pancreas, thyroid disease, diabetes and cancer can also cause indigestion.

Excessive smoking and alcohol abuse.

Parasites in the intestines.

Abnormal motility and functional dyspepsia

Home Remedies for Indigestion Treatment

There are different available over the counter drugs for indigestion but since it is chemical-based it can irritate the stomach and make the condition worse. You can try using natural home remedies for indigestion instead; these are safer, cheaper and can be readily available in your own kitchen and garden. Try the following home remedies (but remember not to try this all at once):

Water - drinking plenty of warm water can help ease indigestion and promote normal motility in the stomach.

Neem tree leaves - take a tablespoon of powdered neem tree leaves to soothe indigestion due to eating too much synthetic preservatives.

Lemon juice - it is an effective home remedies for indigestion cause by too much fatty foods.

Ginger - this is one of the best home remedies for indigestion. Make ginger tea and drink it while still warm. It soothes stomach pains and eases indigestion.

Carom seeds - chew half teaspoon of carom seeds with two pinch of salt and drink one glass of water afterwards. One of the simplest and effective home remedies for indigestion.

Fennel seed - is another effective remedy for indigestion.

Herbal Tea - drinking warm tea mix with some herbs like peppermint, chamomile, raspberry or blackberry can help relieve stomach cramps and heartburn.

Soya and garlic oil - mix equal amount of these oils and massage directly to the stomach to ease out pain and discomfort.

Baking soda - drink half glass water mixed with one tablespoon of baking soda. It gives instant relive to stomach pains and indigestion.

Aniseed - eating three to four aniseeds is a proven relief for indigestion.
