Psoriasis, Symptoms & Home Remedies for Psoriasis Treatment

It is a common disease in skin. It has no cure but there are available treatments that can relieve the symptoms. Psoriasis is a condition of the skin caused by an overactive immune system. It affects skin commonly at the scalps, elbows and knees. Some may have a mild psoriasis, which they won't even suspect they have a medical problem in the skin while some have a severe psoriasis that may cover their entire body with scaly and red skin. Some may improve, while some may worsen. Psoriasis is considered a long-term and non-curable problem in the skin. It can happen in all ages and sexes and can be seen worldwide. Person with psoriasis can be stress, depress, and have low-esteem.

Causes of psoriasis are unidentifiable. It could be genetics. Those who have a family member that have psoriasis have the higher risk of having the same condition. During puberty of females and men psoriasis may develop and become more severe. Medicines for malaria and lithium can also caused psoriasis. Alcohol using can increase the chance of being affected. And smoking is said to be the main caused of having psoriasis.

Symptoms of Psoriasis

The skins of the person who have psoriasis have red patches and are covered with a scale that is silvery. It looks like pink or red area of raised, dry and thickened skin. It affects the area above the knee, scalp and elbow. The affected areas are itchy and painful. The skin is sensitive to sweating and friction. The scratched skin may bleed.

Home Remedies for Psoriasis Treatment

There are different medications available for psoriasis. You can choose from lots of over the counter drugs or natural home remedies which are safer, cheaper and has no long term or immediate side effect. You can try the following home remedies:

  1. Cabbage - use the greenest and thickest outer leaves of the cabbage as compress for your psoriasis. Make sure that the leaves are clean, warm and secure. This is proven to be effective and a great home remedy for psoriasis.
  2. Oils from avocado and cashew nuts - it should be apply directly to the affected are. It is a beneficial treatment for psoriasis.
  3. Bitter gourd - mix fresh juice of bitter gourd with one tablespoon of lime juice. Take this on an empty stomach for a month and it will help relieve your psoriasis.
  4. Buttermilk - drink the curd from buttermilk or you can also use this as compressed for the infected area. It is an effective home remedy for your psoriasis.

Other Suggestions for Psoriasis Treatment

Vinegar is a good itch reliever, specially the apple cider vinegar. To a galloon of water, add 1 cup of apple cider vinegar. Soak cloth and apply to the area that is affected. Extract cream of aloe Vera may reduce scaling, redness, inflammation and itching, used it several times in a day for at least a month and see improvement. Apply cream of capsaicin to the area that is affected several times in a day. Take 3 grams of fish oil daily. Do not try all of this home remedy all of the same time. Consult first the doctor before trying all of these home remedy. Avoid spicy foods, coffee, tropical fruits and alcohol.
