Sore Throat, Symptoms & Home Remedies for Sore Throat Treatment

It is also known as tonsillitis or pharyngitis; it is a result of an infection by a virus or bacteria. It can also be a symptom of a much serious illness like glandular fever and flu. Sore throat is often seen in young people or children but it can also happen at any age. A sore throat that last for more than 2 weeks can be a sign of a serious illness like AIDS and throat cancer. It can be transmitted through the contact to the bacteria on the infected person's personal things or hand or through coughing.

Sore throat can be cause by a virus, which can cause a very painful throat and high fever. Cold virus can also cause sore throat as one of its many symptoms. Coughing can irritate the throat and make it sore. Allergies can cause mild throat irritation. Breathing using mouth can cause soreness and dryness to the throat. Bacteria such as streptococcus that causes strep throat and bacteria that cause red fine rashes, the bacteria named Arcanobacterium haemolyticum arcanobacterium, are most common causes of sore throat.

Signs and Symptoms fo Sore Throat

Those who have sore throat feels pain in their throat and have difficulty in swallowing. The pain can spread in the ear. Have reddish, swelling throat, and possibly have a high temperature. Signs that sore throat had a more serious cause like strep throat is when patient had a scratchy, swollen or dry throat and the throat has white pus or white patches. The patient is vomiting, has headache and skin rashes.

Complication in Sore Throat

Sore throat usually last for only a week but complications may arise like:

there could be a secondary infection at the sinuses, ear, or chest.

if it is because of streptococcus infection, rashes may appear.

a disease like kidney disease or rheumatic fever, may appear.

it can also lead to ear infection.

Prevention of Sore Throat

The best way to prevent infection is through washing of hand. Do not share napkins, glasses, food, eating utensils and towels. Do not touch drinking fountains or public phones with mouth. Clean regularly your phones, computer keyboards and TV remotes with cleanser. Avoid contacts with sick people. When there it is a high pollution day, it is advisable to stay at home. Avoid contact with secondhand smoke and avoid smoking. Sneeze or cough through napkins and then throw the napkins.

Home Remedies for Sore Throat Treatment

It is advisable to consult a doctor before trying any home remedies. Herbal throat lozenges, especially those that have slippery elms, that can be found in any store are said to be effective in relieving dry and irritated throat. Gargle a cup of water mixed with one tsp. of salt 3 times a day. Drink herbal teas with lemon or honey, it can be a good help. Take antibiotics like penicillin or amoxicillin. Drink milk with ¼ teaspoon turmeric powder and a little bit salt 2 times a day.

You can also try these other home remedies for your sore throat:

  1. Mango bark - extract from mango bark can be use as gargle. It can help soothing your sore throat. Simply mix 10 ml of mango bark extract to 1250ml water.
  2. Belleric Myroblan - another herb you can use as remedy for sore throat. Combine two grams of fruit pulp with salt, pepper and honey. Take this everyday to relive pain and swelling.
  3. Cinnamon - this is a beneficial remedy for sore throat caused by colds. Mix two to three drops of pure cinnamon oil with honey for immediate relief.
