Telogen Effluvium

Telogen Effluvium is the medical term for temporary hair loss after it has been disrupted or shocked in some way. Telogen Effluvium can lead to thinning hair, which may not be throughout the entire head but some places of the scalp it would be more noticeable than others. Fortunately this hair loss is only temporarily and sometimes can be prevented, if proper care is taken care of the hair. However some causes of Telogen Effluvium may cause the hair loss to be lost permanently.

Causes of Telogen Effluvium

Some of the common causes that cause telgoen effluvium may include but is not limited to certain factors such as iron deficiency; hormonal changes, menopause, heavy metal poisoning, chronic medical illness, hypothyroidism and severe stress are some of the factors that may cause telogen effluvium.

Sign and Symptoms of Telogen Effluvium

Telogen Effluvium can be detected by signs and symptoms of other hair loss conditions such as:

Alopecia Areata - This is an auto immune disease that affects the hair follicles , where hair follicles are attacked by the persons own immune system which stunts hair growth and produces bald patches throughout the scalp.

Alopecia universalis - This is amore severe form of alopecia areata, which can cause hair loss in the eyebrows, eyelashes and nose hairs as well as on the scalp of the affected person.

Trichotilliamania - This hair loss problem can be diefined as the compulsion to pull one's own hair. This is actually a psychological disorder that should be examined by a doctor to see why the problem exists. However the constant pulling or tweezing of the hairs can be identified as trauma to the system which will affect the hair follicles resulting in Telogen Effluvium.

Telogen Effluvium Treatment

The great thing about Telogen Effluvium is that it is only temporary hair loss and that the problem will most likely repair itself. Most of the hair lost will most likely be replaced which is a good thing, however it may take a little longer than usual to grow the hairs back as normal. As far as treatments goes, it is noted that there is no treatment for this condition. However there are ways that Telogen effluvium can be prevented and improved by eating a healthy diet that consists of the usual doctors orders of fruit, veggies and lots of protein. There are other methods like using special lotions and special shampoos and sprays to assist the hair growth process.

Of course there are some things that go beyond our control, however it would be best to prevent telogen effluvium from happening to you by finding ways to relax and de-stress as well as eating a nutritious diet to prevent any diseases that may cause shock and trauma to your body. The proper care of your body should be essential to your health, so it will not result in any conditions such as Telogen Effluvium or any other hair loss diseases. Telogen Effluvium does not seem to be heredity and seems like it can be easily treated and reversed if taken care of properly as well as be detected at an early stage of the condition.
