Product Build-up is the residue of styling products and two in one shampoo formulation left on the hair shaft.
Causes of Product Build-up
When these residues combine with mineral deposits in the water, a build-up occurs preventing thorough cleansing and conditioning. The result is hair that is dull and lacks lustre, it is often difficult to perm or colour successfully because there is a barrier preventing the chemicals from penetrating the hair shaft. The color can be patchy and the perm result uneven.
Product Build-up Solutions
Use one of the stripping, chelating or clarifying shampoos, which are specially designed to remove product build-up. This is particularly important prior to perming or coloring.

Having asked a question about removal of product build-up your site recommends using a shampoo for this but it would be more helpful if suggestions as to exactly which shampoos to use were given. Or else give links to these shampoos.
