Hair Brushes - What is a styling hair Brush, Types of hair Brushes

What is a hair brush? Brushes are made of bristles, which may be natural hog bristle, plastic, nylon or wire. The bristles are embedded in a wooden, plastic or moulded rubber base and set in tuffs and rows. This allows loose or shed hair to collect in the grooves without interfering with the action of the bristles. The spacing of the tuffs plays an important role - generally, the wider the spacing between the rows of bristles the easier the brush will flow through the hair.

High-Quality Hair Brush - Styling brushes come in many shapes, sizes, and have different purposes. Flat brushes, which have bristles on one side only, are nice, all-round tools, but are not precise enough to curl or straighten hair. Round brushes, with bristles all the way around, are ideal for curling, straightening, or adding volume. Small-diameter brushes are for short hair and large-diameter brushes are for straightening kinks out of long hair. Broad, flat paddle brushes are great for blow-drying straight or wavy long hair.

The role and importance of Brushing

Brushes help to remove tangles and knots and generally smooth the hair. The action of brushing from the roots to the ends removes dead cells and dirt, and encourages the cuticles to lie flat, thus reflecting the light.

Brushing also stimulates the blood supply to the hair follicles, promoting healthy growth. Hair brush increases blood circulation in head and thus helps in proper growth of hairs.

Circular or radial brushes come in a variety of sizes and are circular or semicircular in shape. These brushes have either mixed bristles for finishing, a rubber pad with nylon bristles, or metal pins for styling. They are used to tame and control naturally curly, permed and wavy hair. This makes the hair brush one of the most useful hair styling tools.

Flat or half-round brushes are ideal for all aspects of wet and dry hairstyling and blow-drying. Normally they are made of nylon bristles in a rubber base.

Pneumatic brushes have a domed rubber base with bristle set in tufts. They can be plastic, natural bristle or both.

Vent brushes have vented, hollow centers that allow the airflow from the dryer to pass through them.

Flexibrushes with steam are styling brushes with soft, flexible bristles. Incorporated in the brush is a water reservoir which when heated produces jets of steam designed to 'set' curls. They are ideal for creating soft, gentle curls and wave' on longer hair.
