Expensive Ceramic Iron Worth

December 28, 2008 | Filed Under Hair Products | Leave a Comment

Fast Ceramic Heater

Ceramic heaters and ceramic plate are the two most important components to a good ceramic iron. Good ceramic heaters enable flash-fast heating and quick recovery time. Many “ceramic” irons use conventional electric heaters (PTC) but claim to be a ceramic iron. Make sure that ceramic heaters are used.

You can usually tell by how quickly they heat up to the maximum temperature.

Smooth Ceramic Plates

Ceramic plates conduct heat faster than metallic plates. That’s why good ceramic irons heat up and recover faster than conventional irons. However, cheaply made ceramic plates have bumps and scratches. Bumps and Scratches damage even pull your hair. And also note that many “ceramic” irons in the market are not made of real ceramic plates.

You can usually tell by how smoothly the plates glide through your hair.

Tourmaline Ceramic Iron

Tourmaline generates negative ion and far-infrared. Negative ion atomizes water particles and seals hair cuticles, restoring moisture inside the hair and giving it more shine. Far-infrared (rays of certain wave-length) emits far-infra energy. This energy is absorbed by hair and heat is applied “inside out”, making transforming the shape of hair faster without having to apply excessive heat from outside.

Real tourmaline-infused iron should not require temperature higher than 400F degrees and still straighten/curl hair while giving it a beautiful shine.

Hot-spot-free Ceramic Iron

Many ceramic irons leave hot-spot marks (especially the ones that go over 400F degrees.) Hot-spot marks are often manifestations of singed damage to your hair. The best irons have even temperature throughout the plates (hot-spot-free) and give smooth, shiny finish.

Swipe your hair slowly with the iron and look closely to make sure there are no singe marks.

Consistent Temperature

It is just an important not to exceed the desired temperature as it is to maintain the minimum temperature. A rapid engagement/disengagement system maintains the temperature without over-heating.

This is not easy to tell without a sophisticated gauger. But if you have to guide the iron over your hair repeatedly to accomplish the desired style, or if you see singe marks on hair, it is most likely that the temperature is not consistent.

Hair Quick Fixes

To revive or add volume to hair when there is no time to wash it, simply spritz the roots with blow-drying spray and then dry the hair, focusing on the root area.

If your hair starts to drop, tip your head upside down and spritz the roots with hairspray. Don’t be tempted to put too much product on the ends of hair as it will just drag it down.

A handy hair trick: if your hair has collapsed from too much energetic dancing in a club, or if you don’t have access to a blow-dryer, spritz your hair with hairspray and use the hand-dryer in the cloakroom to dry it.

When you are pinning up your hair with hair-grips, lightly backcomb the roots as this will give a longer-lasting hold.

If all hairstyle tricks fail, tie your hair back in a low ponytail, securing it at the nape. For an extra-tight hold, wrap it with a piece of wet string instead of a hair band – the string will contract as it dries.

Short Spiky Hairstyles

Don’t think that just because you have got short hair, you have limited styling options. There is a lot you can do with short hair – you can make it soft, sexy and tousled; slick it back neatly for understated glossy elegant short hairstyle; decorate it with pretty hair slides and grips; or spike it up for a groovy, street-chick short hair style. All you need is a range of good hair styling products, some basic tools and a little bit of know-how.

Short spiky hairstyle is a funky textured look and a great way to make short hair gutsier, and will certainly get you noticed.

For Creating Short Spike Hair Styles, you need: strong-hold gel, hairspray, hairdryer and diffuser.

Steps for Short Spiky Hairstyles

Apply some strong-hold gel to wet hair with the use of fingers to make sure it distributes evenly to the ends and gently work the hair into spikes.

Dry your hair with your head tipped over, using a diffuser to help keep all of the spikes intact.

Finally, spray your hair with hairspray to add extra hold and shine to short hairstyles.

How to Shampoo your Hair

May 27, 2008 | Filed Under Hair Care | Leave a Comment

1. Thoroughly drench the hair for 30 to 60 seconds before you apply shampoo - you will need less products and washing after shampooing will be easier on the hair. Rub a little shampoo between the palms of your hands before smoothing it over the surface of the hair.

2. Gently massage the head, but do not rough up the hair or pull long hair up onto the scalp - it will only causes tangles. Long hair will be cleansed as the shampoo washes out with the water.

3. When massaging the shampoo, use the tips of your fingers, not the palms of your hands. This helps stimulate the scalp and stops you from roughing up the cuticles.

4. Rinse, rinse and rinse again. Poor rinsing results in dull hair and a flaky scalp, caused by dry soap flakes. Finish with an ice-cold rinse. It will close the cuticle and stimulate the scalp, ensuring healthy growth and extra shine for fabulous hairstyles.

5. To towel-dry, squeeze and pat the hair dry. Do not rub it too vigorously with the towel as it will rub the hair cuticle up the wrong way.

How to Blow Dry Hair

May 9, 2008 | Filed Under Hair Care | 1 Comment

First of all, towel-dry your hair before beginning the process of blow-drying to remove as much water as possible.

Use high heat and speed for finishing the look. Lower heat and speed should be used for drying and styling permed, color-treated or fragile hair.

Brush the hair while blow-drying it against its natural growth pattern to create body and volume.

After blow-drying the hair partially using this technique, brush and blow dry your tresses in the direction you want it to lay for the finished hairstyle.

Hair Mistakes to Avoid

April 14, 2008 | Filed Under Hair Care | Leave a Comment

There are a number of different hair mistakes that most women make. One of the main reasons is because they do not realize that what they are doing can actually cause a lot of damage to their hair. Here are some of the common hair mistakes that you will want to avoid.

Common Hair Mistake #1: Avoid Wearing Tight Ponytails

There is no doubt that tight ponytails may look good. Unfortunately, wearing tight ponytails on a regular basis can be very damaging to your hair. The reason is because they can cause breakage. If you want to continue wearing ponytails, the best thing to do is create looser ones by opting for a scrunchy rather than a tight elastic band. Also try cutting down on how often you wear them.

Common Hair Mistake #2: Don’t Overuse Hair Styling Products

Most people use at least one hair styling product, such as hairspray, gel or mousse. What most people do not realize, however, is that overusing hair styling products can be very bad for the hair. Not only will it cause your hair to experience damage, but it may also cause you to develop dandruff. The best thing to do is limit yourself to a certain amountof one hair styling product when you choose to use it or go natural whenever possible.

Common Hair Mistake #3: Always Use Leave-in Conditioner

A lot of people neglect to use leave-in conditioner when styling their hair. It is really important to make sure you do. Even if your hair is not already dry, it can always use more moisture to prevent the problem from occurring. Using leave-in conditioner, in combination with the regular usage of a good moisturizing conditioner, whenever possible is always a good idea.
